Times Up!

Sunday, November 2nd 2008

Last night I photographed a reception at one of the most exotic and beautiful locations in Houston.  The Gem Exhibit at The Museum of Natural Science.  Absolutely amazing!

Red carpet covers the floors.  Black ceilings.  Dark wood walls.  Wait staff everywhere with fantastic food and drinks.  Glass cases cover the walls containing the most beautiful gems and stones imaginable.  Narrow beams of light strike the gems.

It’s as if you are looking at The Grand Canyon.  You really have no idea what you are looking at, or how long it took to create something so unique.  You only know that you are surrounded by fantastic beauty, and are wanting nothing.

The night progressed on, and one of the best DJ companies in the city was rockin the house, Rock N Robin.  All of the sudden the music just stopped.  No fade out.  It just stopped dead in its tracks. All of the gem cases went black, and the music stopped!  Everyone looked at the DJ as if it was his fault, but it was quickly realized what had happened.

It was 10:30, and evidently that was the time that the facility was booked until.  The facility had simply just shut the power off! I have shot both weddings and receptions at this location before, and this was something new.

So, a warning to all that book this absolutely exquisite facility.  There is no grace period.  When your time is up, your time is up!

At the very least, no matter what facility you are having your reception at, make sure to ask the manager what is going to happen when your time runs out.
