Every weekend I am shooting a wedding. And every weekend I am confronted with a piece of wedding cake, each made by a different baker. So trust me when I say, I am a connoisseur of wedding cake!
At some point in time, a cake maker somewhere said, “Hey, I can sell twice as many cakes if I start making a cake for the groom as well!” Thus was born The Groom’s Cake.
Now, I never share my thoughts about wedding cake with a bride and groom, as sharing ones opinion about something to a bride at a wedding is not a good idea. It’s dangerous. But last night, I had to know who made the groom’s cake!
Normally, if I have any wedding cake at all, I find the smallest piece I can. Just a taste. Over time it adds up!
I’m to the point now that I give each bite of cake I taste a rating between 1 – 10. Most of the time, my score falls between a 4- 7. Last nigh the groom’s cake had to be a nine! It was so good I’m actually writing about it! And I’m sure that I just lost a quart of testosterone because I am writing about it.

What you want to ask for is the Groom’s Cake that was delivered to The Briar Club, on 12/20/08, for the MacDonald / Ridley wedding. OMG!
I do have to say, that when I first started writing this post, I was a bit concerned that I would lose any future referrals from certain bakers. But to be honest, in all my years of experience, I don’t think I have ever had a referral from a baker. And it wouldn’t matter anyway. The cake was just that good!
