Ghost In The Machine

Saturday, February 27th 2010

Today’s blog entry has very little to do with photography. It’s really just kind of a fun story.

It’s Saturday, and normally I have a wedding on Saturday, but not today. I’m looking forward to a nice “date night” with my wife.

So, I’m just waking up and I hear a loud scratching. I think it must be the cat, but the cat is on the bed. I get up, and begin making my way to the noise. It’s coming from the wall behind the dryer!

Crap.

Then the scurrying sound sounds like paws on metal. The rat has crawled down the exhaust tube into the dryer!

I have to get it out at this point, so I move the dryer away from the wall, place a towel under the laundry room door so it can’t make it into the rest of the house. I unfasten the exhaust tube from the wall and place it in a bucket with the lid in my other hand.

Nothing comes out.

My wife suggests we move the cars out of the garage and open the garage doors, and then move the dryer outside.

Seemed smart to me.

I move my car out, and begin to shimmy the dryer out of the backdoor into our attached garage.

My wife begins to scream as she feels something coming out of the exhaust hose!

I point the hose in the direction of the open garage door and out comes the animal, leaping with all its might for freedom, and just before it hits the garage floor it sprouts wings and flies into the blue sky.
