In order to grow, conditions must become more difficult. At times, I like to make things more difficult by eliminating everything in a composition other than the subject and a single prop. Once everything is eliminated, the final portrait then displays not only the subject but the photographer’s abilities.
Notice how I have lit the bride’s face in a way to accentuate her jaw line and shade under the chin.
I debated on removing the strands of hair, but when I did her head seemed to “float” in the darkness behind her.
