Steve Jobs Resigns As CEO of Apple

Wednesday, August 24th 2011

I just received a news flash from CNN that Steve Jobs has resigned as CEO of Apple.  Now is a good time.  His health is fleeting, and he has made Apple one of the largest companies on the planet.

I had to make a blog entry to remember the date.

Thank you Steve.

Wednesday, August 24th 2011

Wednesday mornings I attend a 7:30am networking meeting with other business owners in my area.  The group is a chapter of BNI, and we are looking for a few new members to fill some empty spaces.

All day today I will be following up with email and phone messages I need to return.  I got behind with returning messages over the past few days as we have been preparing to get the kids into school.

I will also be making some wedding album revisions for my current clients.  To finish up the day, I will be packing up my cameras for an executive session tomorrow morning.  Somewhere today I want to find time to catch up on the latests and greatest camera equipment as well.

Tuesday, August 23rd 2011

I am retouching images for a wedding album today, and I am  behind on this work, so I will be letting phone calls go to voice mail for the next few hours.  I will also be working on replying to three client’s album revision notes today.

I will be hand delivering my late work to my client today in order to deliver the product a bit quicker.

Once my late work is caught up I will be answering inquiries for upcoming wedding photography, and family portrait requests.

I Have Found My Houston Bookkeeper.

Friday, August 12th 2011

After years of searching, and floating from one company to the next, I believe that I have finally found my Houston Bookkeeper for the years to come. Padgett Business Services.

The owner of this particular location of Padgett is Bryan Brassell. He is highly professional, but very easy to get along with. One of the things which sold me on his services is how passionate and educated he is. He is also very understanding with the fact that first and foremost I am an artist, and not an accountant in any way shape or form. Additionally, Bryan is an expert when it comes to taxes!

Who has the time for accounting, bookkeeping and taxes? I know I don’t, and I know my business is to the level now that I need professional help to keep things running smoothly.

I just can’t say enough good things about Bryan and his team.

Bryan introduced me to his team earlier this week when I went to sign up for an account, and they were all very hospitable, and notably hard at work serving their current client base. This morning I called with a basic question, and I spoke with Vicki. She was patient, and made sure my question was answered. A very pleasant experience.

If you are looking for a Houston bookkeeper with a fantastic knowledge of taxes, and a great support staff, then contact the Houston Bookkeeping, Accounting and Tax team of Padgett Business Services.

Chili’s Restaurants benefitting Berry’s- Specific TX Locations

I’ve been deeply moved by the story of the Berry family in the news. As a restaurant manager, I do fundraisers for organizations to help their cause. This is a cause I truly believe Chili’s can help.

I have organized a group of Chili’s restaurants that will participate in a combined fundraiser on August 2nd. The restaurants are Chili’s @ Tomball,Spring Cypress,Conroe,West Oaks,Atascocita,Sugarland,?West Little York,Town and Country,Willowbrook,Hollister, and Copperfield.

The fundraiser is for all day on August 2nd. Dine in or take out. Chili’s will give back ten percent of the receipts the customers designate for the Berry Fund only.It does not include all Chili’s sales. The customers need to inform their servers their receipts goes towards the Family Fund. We will total all “Berry Fund” receipts and send in to corporate and they will cut a check.

Any questions, please contact Kenny Gin at 281-807-4260(w) or 281-923-1722(c)
or Email at work C00641@Chili’s.com and kgin101@sbcglobal.net at home.

Mac Lion and Importing Images Into Lightroom Over a Network

Sunday, July 24th 2011

This blog entry is really for the photographers out there that read this blog.

I recently upgraded my main retouching station on my network to Mac’s new operating system Lion. Immediately I ran into a problem when trying to import images into Adobe Lightroom 3. For whatever reason I was unable to see my Drobo which is attached to my Mac Server on my local network.

I haven’t solved the problem completely, but I have come close. Normally when I initiate an import of images, I can see my networked drives in the “Source” column on the left hand side of the Import Window. Now as I have stated I can not see the network, which is frustrating to say the least, as I love storing my images centrally on my server. You can imagine how many images I must have to keep track of.

Here is the temporary, and possibly the permanent solution I have found. When looking at the import window, take a look at the top left to find a section called “From” and click the pop up window arrows to reveal some additional options including recent favorites.

Activating the popup window will display something similar to the image below. Clicking the option called “Other Source” allows me to navigate to my network and import images from anywhere.

Part of the problem may be that I have not upgraded my current server to the Lion version yet, but I don’t think that is the problem.

If you are reading this, and using Other Source works for you, leave a comment below. If you know of another way to get the network to show up in the Source column then I would love to know.

Hope this helps someone out there. My next call is theta my friend and 2011 PPGH Board Member, Nick Tsakiris The Lightroom Dude.
