I’ve been a professional portrait photographer since 1986 and this is without a doubt one of my most treasured executive portraits. It hangs proudly in my studio.
The opportunity to create this fantastic portrait of Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner, former Houston Mayor Annise Parker, and Houston City Councilman Robert Gallegos, presented itself while walking with a large group of executives and security detail to a ribbon cutting celebrating the completion of major renovations by Scenic Houston to Broadway Blvd. just outside of Hobby Airport.
While it was a large important group on a tight schedule, I found the courage to stop everyone for the creation of the portrait. The shoot took roughly 30 seconds.
There are two things which you may not initially notice in the portrait. First, I’m 6’2″, which means I’ve lowered down quite a bit to ensure all in the portrait were standing tall and strong. Second, the flash on my camera has been angled upward drawing your gaze to the faces as opposed to lighting all of the clothing and the ground below.
I hope to someday have the opportunity to provide a framed version of this portrait as a gift to each of these three honorable Houstonians. Until then, it hangs proudly and prominently in my studio.
