Four Decades Behind the Lens
Your headshot is working before you arrive.
It introduces you in rooms you have never entered. It speaks on your behalf before the first phone call, before the first handshake, before the first meeting.
That is why it deserves more than a rushed photo and a hopeful shrug.
I’m Aric Hoek.
For four decades, I have made portraits for people who do not have time to waste and do not want to look awkward in front of a camera. Executives between meetings. Professionals changing careers. Attorneys, physicians, advisors, consultants, and leaders who understand that a headshot is not decoration. It is a tool.
I started as a professional photographer in 1986. Back then, photographs lived in envelopes and chemicals. Today they live in profile images, company websites, pitch decks, conference bios, and search results. The tools changed. The job did not.
The job is still the same: make the subject look credible, current, confident, and worth trusting.
How I Got Here
My path into headshots was not built by trend. It was built by necessity, experience, and repetition.
In 2004, I opened Solaris Studios in Houston. In 2008, the recession changed the market and forced a hard pivot. I had built a career in international wedding photography, but when that work slowed, I returned to something that mattered in a different way: business portraits for people who needed to look employable, promotable, and credible.
I watched a single image change the way employers responded to candidates. I watched better headshots help professionals get taken more seriously online. That is when the real weight of this work became impossible to ignore.
A strong headshot will not create talent that is not there.
But it will stop weak imagery from undermining the talent that is.
What Makes Solaris Studios Different
There are plenty of photographers.
Very few have built an entire process around making headshots easy, fast, and accurate for busy professionals.
That is what Solaris Studios does.
If you come to the studio for a business headshot, you do not get photographed, sent home, and left wondering what will come back. You stay for the edit. You sit with me while I retouch the image. You guide the final result. I call this Collaborative Retouching.
You see the work as it happens. You tell me when it looks right. You leave knowing exactly what your final image looks like, because you approved it before you walked out the door.
That is how same-day delivery becomes possible.
It is also how you avoid the common problem of outsourced retouching that technically looks polished but somehow does not look like you.
Two Ways to Work With Solaris Studios
Some clients need one strong headshot, fast.
Others need something far more tailored.
Solaris Studios offers both paths.
In-Studio Headshots are built for professionals who want a polished result, collaborative retouching, and same-day delivery from my studio in northwest Houston near Highway 290 and FM 1960.
On-Location Headshots are built for companies and teams that need consistency, convenience, and minimal disruption. I bring the studio to your office and create portraits that look cohesive across the whole team. Learn more about On-Location Headshots.
Bespoke Executive Portraits are for the client who needs more than a standard headshot. These are custom portraits with more creative control, more pre-planning, and more intention behind every choice. Explore Bespoke Executive Portraits.
For the Person Booking the Team
If you are the executive assistant, office manager, HR lead, marketing coordinator, or practice administrator tasked with finding the photographer, here is what you need to know.
Your boss will look great. Your team will look polished. The process will be organized. The delivery will be clear. The experience will not become a mess that you are stuck managing after the fact.
You may not even need to call the studio to check pricing or availability. Much of that is already online. Bookings can often be made directly through the website, which saves time and reduces friction.
You get to be the person who found the photographer who made this easy.
What I Believe About Headshots
A headshot is not a picture.
It is a tool.
It works while you sleep. It represents you in rooms you will never enter. It should communicate competence, confidence, and presence. In the best cases, it should instantly suggest that the subject knows what they are doing.
That is especially true of a Bespoke Executive Portrait. The best executive portraits do not merely say, “Here is the person.” They say, “Here is the expert.”
What You Get When You Work With Me

- Two clear paths: fast and efficient, or fully bespoke
Outside the Studio
Outside the studio, you will usually find me studying light, composition, and visual storytelling wherever I can find it. Sometimes that means the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Sometimes it means being outdoors with a camera, chasing a very fast subject that refuses to cooperate.
Photography has changed dramatically since I started.
But the things that matter most have not changed at all.
Light. Timing. Judgment. Expression. Trust.
